What Is PSL?
PSL is a 0-8 scale used to rate facial attractiveness. The letters stand for PuaHate, SlutHate, and Lookism, the three forums where the scale originated. A PSL score describes facial structure only, and each score maps to a named tier such as MTN, HTN, or Chadlite.
What PSL Means
PSL began as forum shorthand and became the default vocabulary for discussing facial aesthetics online. When someone says they are “4.5 PSL”, they are placing their face on a 0-8 ladder where roughly 4 is average, 5 to 6 is above average, and 7 or higher is exceptionally rare. The number and the tier name describe the same thing.
How the PSL Scale Is Used
The scale is rarity-anchored: most people cluster between 3 and 5, and each additional point above 5 covers a much smaller share of the population. What a PSL Rating Considers
- Facial symmetry between the left and right sides
- Facial thirds and midface proportions
- Eye area, including canthal tilt
- Jawline definition and chin projection
- Cheekbones, nose, lips, hairline, and skin quality
- Sexual dimorphism - how masculine or feminine the structure reads

A 1-10 rating blends face, body, style, grooming, and personal taste. PSL is narrower and stricter - it grades facial structure on a 0-8 range calibrated to rarity. The same person usually receives a lower PSL number than their casual 1-10 rating, which is expected rather than a harsh result.
Limitations
PSL is community terminology, not a clinical standard. Tier labels and thresholds are conventions rather than validated population statistics, and perceived attractiveness varies by observer and culture. Automated scoring is useful because it is consistent and repeatable, but it should be read as a directional estimate.
